Book Launch Preparation Meeting Held in London for “A Man of Action” Biography of Ahmed us Samad Chowdhury JP

A preparatory meeting for the publication ceremony of the biographical book *“A Man of Action”* on Ahmed us Samad Chowdhury JP was held last Tuesday, 19 May at 7:00 PM in the Channel S Board Room, London.

The meeting focused on the arrangements for the upcoming book launch and the formation of a 15-member sub-committee tasked with overseeing the publication ceremony, including the formal unveiling of the book.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ahmed us Samad Chowdhury JP—Chairman of Channel S and Friends of National Heart Foundation Hospital, Sylhet UK Committee, and recently honoured with the Freedom of the City of London—extended greetings and expressed gratitude to all attendees.

It was also highlighted that the Bangla version of the book is expected to be published in Bangladesh in the near future, along with a modest launch event to be organized there. The translation of the book is being handled by Touhid Shakil.

Ahmed us Samad Chowdhury JP has been actively engaged for over 50 years in various sectors of the British Bangladeshi community. His contributions span religious, educational, healthcare, and charitable sectors in both the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. In the UK, he has been associated with institutions including Bristol Shahjalal Jame Mosque and several community and faith-based organisations. In Bangladesh, he has been directly involved with a number of philanthropic initiatives, including the late Delwar Hossain Chowdhury Mosque and other religious institutions.

Notably, he has played a significant role in supporting major healthcare initiatives such as the Sylhet National Heart Foundation Hospital, Sylhet Kidney Foundation Hospital, and Sylhet Liver Foundation Hospital, among others. Speakers at the meeting emphasized the importance of documenting these contributions for future generations through the upcoming publication.

The meeting also confirmed that the official book launch ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 16 June at 6:00 PM at London Enterprise Academy.

The session was initially addressed by Misbah Jamal, Founder of Sunrise Spectrum Bangla Radio TV and Peace Home, and Touhid Shakil, Senior News Presenter of Channel S, literary figure, and distinguished reciter, who provided an overview of the publication.

Open discussions were held by several prominent figures including former President of the London Bangla Press Club Muhammad Zubair, current President Barrister Tarique Chowdhury, General Secretary Mohammad Akramul Hossain, researcher Faruk Ahmed, senior journalist Abdul Munim Jahidi Karl, Channel S News Editor and Senior Presenter Rupa Amin, Redbridge Community Trust President Muhammad Ohid Uddin, senior news reporter and presenter Rezaul Karim Mridha, Newdin Online Editor Poly Rahman, poet Hafsa Islam, Career Advisor of London Enterprise Academy Muhi Mikdad, and social worker Md. Alauddin.

Participants agreed that the event will be organized on an invitation-only basis, with special emphasis on engaging the younger generation of British-born Bangladeshis, including university students. Muhammad Zubair and Barrister Tarique Chowdhury pledged media support for the initiative, while Muhi Mikdad was assigned responsibility for coordinating youth participation.

Considering venue capacity, the event will be limited to approximately 150 invited guests. Various sub-committee members were assigned specific responsibilities to ensure the successful execution of the program.

The ceremony will be conducted bilingually in both Bangla and English to accommodate a diverse audience and ensure wider accessibility.
