Vodtalk Academy has launched an innovative Summer Media Series in Barking & Dagenham, creating a practical pathway for young people who are job searching, exploring future careers and seeking opportunities to build confidence, skills and experience.
The programme introduces participants to the exciting world of media production, offering hands-on learning across a wide range of areas including camera operation, presenting, interviewing, scriptwriting, content creation, storytelling, hosting and behind the scenes production.
Designed to be practical, engaging and inclusive, the project gives young people the opportunity to work with media equipment, develop original ideas and experience the different roles involved in producing professional content.
Participants are encouraged to communicate confidently, work as part of a team and discover strengths to support them in future employment, education, training or entrepreneurship.
The Summer Media Series also aims to connect young people with meaningful work experience and opportunities to expand their professional networks. By developing transferable skills such as communication, creativity, organisation, teamwork, digital awareness and problem-solving, participants can strengthen their confidence and become better prepared for the workplace.
The programme is particularly focused on supporting young people who may be searching for employment or looking for a clearer direction.
Through practical media training, mentoring and positive engagement, Vodtalk Academy hopes to help participants gain valuable knowledge and experience while building a stronger understanding of the opportunities available within the growing media and creative industries.
Shah Yousuf from VodTalk Academy said: “This project is about creating opportunities and helping young people recognise their potential. Media gives people a powerful platform to share stories, develop ideas and communicate with wider audiences. We want participants to gain practical skills, confidence and experience that they can take into job interviews, education, training and future careers.”
Barking & Dagenham Library Services Manager Zoinul Abidin, speaking about the vision behind the programme, said: “The ambition is to create a lasting legacy by engaging young people in meaningful, practical learning. Media training is about learning how to use a camera. It develops communication, creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and the confidence to express ideas.
“Today, media is part of almost every industry. Understanding how content is created, presented and shared can open doors to employment and help young people become more informed, capable and confident. By investing in their skills and giving them opportunities to participate, we are helping to build a stronger and more connected future.”
The Vodtalk Academy Summer Media Series represents a unique investment in youth empowerment, combining media education with employability support, practical experience and community engagement.
With a focus on vision, awareness, knowledge, skills and experience, the programme aims to inspire young people to explore new possibilities, develop their talents and take positive steps towards future opportunities.
