Beanibazar FC have triumphed in the very first British Bangladesh Cup, the North London Upazila/District football tournament.
At Enfield College Team BB beat Chattogram on penalties after the final finished 0-0. Seventeen year old Qias Ahmed scored the winning spot kick to send Beanibazar home victorious.
“We have a proud record of achievement and North London is a hotbed for football, said manager Shebeer Ahmed.
“Beanibazar is our heritage and I’m tremendously proud of what we’ve achieved here today.”
Ahmed was assisted on and off the field by Beanibazar legends Amran Ahmed, Abul Hussain and Monowar Hussain. The success of the team was credited to an airtight rearguard marshalled by goalkeeper Aslam Hussain.
The Beanibazar stopper and coach was exemplary between the sticks and was unanimously named best goalkeeper and man of the tournament after performing brilliantly to keep six clean sheets on the day.
The tournament was part of a community fun day which included games, stalls, ice cream, refreshments, activities and a bouncy castle.
