Former students, staff and supporters of London Islamic School are preparing for the Mawlana Thohur Uddin Memorial Cup 2026, a football tournament that combines sporting competition with community service and charitable giving.
The event will take place on Sunday 21 June 2026 at The Workhouse, E14 0AF, bringing together teams representing year groups from 2006 through to 2025.
Organised by the Friends of Mawlana Thohur Uddin, the tournament honours the memory of the respected founding chairman of Ford Square Mosque and founding principal of London Islamic School, Ford Square Maktab and Darul Uloom Ford Square.
What began in 2025 as a way for former students and staff to reconnect with the values and vision of Mawlana Thohur Uddin has quickly become a powerful charitable initiative.
Funds raised through previous tournaments helped establish a new girls’ madrasah in Bishwanath, Boruni, Bangladesh.
Organisers hope this year’s event will generate sufficient support to complete the building project and provide lasting educational opportunities for generations to come.
The tournament is expected to feature competitive football, friendly reunions and a strong sense of community spirit.
While teams will battle for the Memorial Cup trophy, the greater victory lies in supporting a cause that reflects the educational and charitable legacy of a man who dedicated his life to serving others.
Supported by local sponsors, community organisations and volunteers, the Memorial Cup continues to demonstrate the positive impact football can have beyond the pitch.
Through teamwork, friendship and generosity, participants are helping to preserve a legacy while creating opportunities for young people thousands of miles away.
As players lace up their boots for another year, the tournament promises not only exciting football but also a reminder that sport can be a powerful force for unity, remembrance and lasting change.
