Runners, walkers and community supporters are being encouraged to lace up their trainers for the Masjid Marathon 2026, a unique 13-mile challenge organised by Lonely Orphans in support of orphans, widows and vulnerable families.
The charity works globally to support orphaned and vulnerable children through humanitarian aid, education, food support and community development programmes.
Taking place on Sunday 2 August 2026, the event will see participants travel across East London, visiting 13 mosques while covering a distance of 13 miles.
Beginning at Darul Ihsaan in Barking, runners will pass through a number of landmark masjids before finishing at London Central Mosque.
The challenge is designed to be accessible to all abilities, with organisers stressing that participation is about compassion, community spirit and raising vital funds rather than athletic performance alone.
Every mile completed will contribute towards helping those facing hardship and displacement.
The route showcases some of London’s most well known mosques, providing participants with a unique opportunity to combine physical activity, reflection and fundraising in a single event.
Md Imran of Lonely Orphans said: “The Masjid Marathon will be a journey of solidarity with orphans, widows and vulnerable families. Every step taken by participants helps raise awareness and vital funds for those facing immense hardship.
“You do not need to be an athlete to take part; you simply need a desire to make a difference. Together, we can transform miles into hope and support for families who need it most.”
With growing interest in charity based running events, organisers are expecting strong participation from individuals, families, community groups and running clubs. The event aims to bring together people from diverse backgrounds in a shared commitment to humanitarian action while promoting healthy lifestyles and community cohesion.
Registration for the Masjid Marathon 2026 is now open, with participants encouraged to secure their place and begin fundraising for an important cause.
