Cricket is being used as a powerful tool for support, confidence and recovery through “She Plays, She Heals”, a women only safe play cricket programme supporting survivors of domestic violence.
The initiative, led by Marks Gate Relief Project, combines cricket with a trauma-informed approach, creating a supportive environment where women can participate in sport while building confidence, connections and resilience.
The programme describes cricket not simply as a game, but as a sport and support network, with an emphasis on moving women from crisis support towards sustained recovery.
Training is available across several locations, including Marks Gate Open Space, Valence Park, Barking Park, Mayesbrook Park, Parsloes Park and Eastbrook End Country Park.
The programme highlights the wider role sport can play in recovery. Cricket can provide opportunities for physical activity, friendship, teamwork and positive engagement, while a women-only setting aims to create a safe and supportive space for participants.

She plays. She heals. Together, stronger.
