This week marks Stop Smoking and Mental Health Week 2026 – a moment to shine a light on how smoking affects both mental and physical health.
Many people living with conditions like anxiety, depression or serious mental illness are more likely to smoke, often using cigarettes as a way to cope, even though nicotine withdrawal can actually heighten stress, low mood and anxiety.
Quitting can make a real difference, improve mental wellbeing while also protecting lung health and reducing the risk of conditions such as COPD, asthma complications and lung cancer.
To support residents on their journey, whether it’s a first attempt or a fresh start, the team will be at Dagenham Library on Friday 12 June from 10am to 2pm, offering friendly advice and practical help.
