Bangladesh District Cup reaches semi final showdown

The Bangladesh District Cup Cricket Tournament 2026 is heading towards a thrilling climax, with four teams remaining in the race for glory after a fiercely contested group stage.

The semi finals and grand final will take place on Tuesday, 1 September at Seven Kings Park, Ilford, with Khulna Tigers facing emerging dark horses Noakhali Royals on Pitch 1 at 10am, while Habiganj Cricket Club, UK take on favourites Moulvibazar on Pitch 2 at the same time.

The two winners will meet in the grand final at 2pm, followed by the presentation ceremony at 5.30pm.

The tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association of United Kingdom (BCSAUK), has brought together district teams in a celebration of cricket, community and Bangladeshi heritage.

Moulvibazar representative Abdus Salam praised the standard of competition and highlighted the remarkable performances of Khulna and Noakhali.

“Khulna and Noakhali have been phenomenal. They have shown tremendous character and quality to exceed expectations and challenge the established district juggernauts,” he said.

The tournament has produced a number of surprises, with pre tournament favourites Sunamganj and Sylhet failing to reach the last four.

Among the biggest stories has been Noakhali Royals, who have emerged as genuine dark horses. Their campaign has captured attention with a combination of determination, disciplined cricket and a belief that they can compete with the tournament’s strongest sides.

Noakhali Royals Ashraful Islam said the team was determined to embrace the opportunity: “We came into the tournament believing in ourselves, but perhaps people did not expect us to reach this stage. We have worked hard as a team and now we want to make the most of the semi final,” he said.

The Khulna Tigers versus Noakhali Royals contest promises to be particularly intriguing, pitting one of the tournament’s strongest-performing sides against the competition’s surprise package.

At the other end of the draw, last year’s finalists Habiganj and Moulvibazar will battle for the second final place, with both now tipped widely to lift the 2026 title.

With Sunamganj and Sylhet, regarded among the district heavyweights and hot favourites before the competition, already eliminated, the final stages have underlined the unpredictability and competitive strength of Bangladeshi community cricket in the UK.

The action begins at 10am on Tuesday, 1 September at Seven Kings Park, Epsom Road, Ilford IG3 8QP.

The grand final is scheduled for 2pm, with the presentation ceremony following at 5.30pm.
