Easter, Ramadan Funday for Docklands Community Initiative

The Docklands Community Initiative foodbank were busy over Easter and Ramadan and several activities were organised to highlight poverty and the devastating impact on communities.

The fun event on the Isle of Dogs followed a family Iftar and fundraising night by Hope n Mic, a group of writers, artists, poets and creatives.

The community show at Club 55 included raffle prizes, sports, games, art and photography by Salam Jones. All funds raised will be used to purchase food and essentials for the DCI foodbank which serves some of the most vulnerable people in East London.

Volunteer Joleen Johnstone commented, “We have an extremely hard working team of volunteers and the respect and value we have towards each other is simply tremendous. We take our responsibilities very seriously and because we have a never say die attitude we have consistently been able to serve our community.

“We are proud to involve our youngsters too. Service to our friends and neighbours is a privilege and a blessing.”

To raise much needed funds the team are planning several activity days during the upcoming summer holidays.
