The heart of East London came alive as London Sportif and Apex proudly presented the first ever Tower Hamlets Community Table Tennis Cup at the London Enterprise Academy. What began as a local tournament quickly became a celebration of community spirit, athletic passion, and the unifying power of sport.
From first serve to final rally, the day was filled with energy, laughter, and fierce yet friendly competition. Players young and old – from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts gathered under one roof to showcase not only their skills but their shared love for the game.
Players Who Shone Bright
Champion: Timothy Tian En Thai
Runner-Up: Perry Fung
Consolation Winner: Milan Saujani
Each participant, win or lose, brought their own story, determination, and community pride to the table, proving that success in sport is measured not only in medals, but in the moments of connection it creates.
Table tennis, despite its Olympic pedigree, often sits quietly in the shadows of more mainstream sports. But for Tower Hamlets, this tournament was a statement of intent. London Sportif and Apex are determined to change the narrative, bringing the sport to schools, youth centres, and community halls across the borough.
Their message is clear: everyone deserves a place to play.
London Sportif Manager Muhi Mikdad captured the spirit of the day perfectly: “It’s a great way to promote table tennis in our community. We’ve seen incredible enthusiasm and sportsmanship from players of all ages today. Our goal is to build a stronger network of community clubs so that everyone, regardless of age or background, has access to sport and the opportunity to play.”
Josh Yang, coach for Apex, echoed that sentiment “Thank you to all participants — we hope even more people will join in future events.”
Apex continues to lead the way, running regular table tennis sessions three times a week for both adults and young players. These sessions are platforms for growth, friendship, and confidence building.
Because the game is all about community in motion the Tower Hamlets Community Table Tennis Cup shows what can be achieved when sport brings people together.
