Braille Group Celebrates 10 Years Supporting Residents in Barking and Dagenham

A longstanding Braille group supporting visually impaired residents in Barking and Dagenham is celebrating a major milestone after reaching its 10th anniversary.

For the past decade, the group has provided a welcoming and supportive environment where members have been able to build confidence, develop valuable life skills and form meaningful social connections.

Organisers say the group has become an important source of encouragement and inclusion for people living with visual impairments across the borough, helping individuals gain greater independence while reducing isolation through regular engagement and shared experiences.

To mark the special occasion, a celebratory event will take place on Friday 22 May from 10am to 12pm at Dagenham Library.

The event will recognise the achievements of members over the years while also paying tribute to the dedication and hard work of volunteers, organisers and supporters who have helped the group thrive since its launch.

Residents interested in joining the Braille group are being encouraged to attend the celebration to meet current members, learn more about the support available and discover how the sessions could benefit them or someone they know.

The anniversary event is expected to highlight not only the importance of accessibility and inclusion, but also the positive impact community-led initiatives can have in bringing people together and improving wellbeing across the borough.
