Queen’s Hospital: Looking Ahead

By Tianna Waite and Patsy Lee

Throughout its 20 years of operation, Queen’s hospital has served everyone in Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge and Rainham.

However many complaints have been launched
around wait times of 4-6 hours.

Accessibility of the facility has been and continues to be lacklustre, and the care is
unsatisfactory.

The Care and Quality Commission has labelled Queen’s as overall “requiring
Improvement” in August 2025 while observing the practises of the Maternity Ward having
previously identified concerns of safety and where pervious breaches of regulations had
taken place.

Having taken the previous feedback on board the Maternity Ward now rank’s
good.

However what continues to drag down the rating of Queen’s hospital is the
Accident and Emergency Department.

Initially in 2006 Queen’s hospital was serving 325
daily walk ins.

Compared to twenty years later, the current statistics have
risen over 100% with 752 daily walk ins on average.

Although it is estimated that Queens
hospital receives a bigger portion of the £1 billion allocated to Barking, Havering and
Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, PFI loan’s used for the creation and development
of the building as well as “corridor care” estimated to be costing around £100,000.

There is no telling how much of the budget is being obviated from patient care towards
factors that could lead to the closer of Queen’s hospital.
