A significant step towards strengthening international cricket development has emerged following a landmark visit to the Nigeria Cricket Federation in Abuja, signalling growing collaboration across regions and a shared vision for the game’s future.

MJ Hasan was warmly received by key officials, including Secretary General and Regional Development Manager Musa Bodie, and given a comprehensive tour of facilities. The visit provided a platform for strategic dialogue focused on expanding cricket’s footprint across Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Discussions centred on establishing a long term partnership designed to nurture talent from grassroots participation through to elite level performance. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to inclusivity, infrastructure growth and sustainable pathways within emerging cricket nations.

Nigeria’s cricketing story continues to gather momentum. With a history dating back to 1904, the nation has steadily progressed on the continental stage.

A notable fourth place finish at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2021 demonstrated growing competitiveness, while the women’s U19 side captured global attention with a landmark victory over New Zealand – an achievement highlighting the country’s rising talent pool.

Beyond performance, the collaboration aims to invest in coaching, youth engagement and community-driven programmes, aligning with global efforts to diversify and expand the sport.

Speaking on the visit, MJ Hasan emphasised the importance of unity and long term vision:

“This is about building bridges through cricket. The passion, history and potential here in Nigeria are undeniable. Together, we are looking to create opportunities that empower communities, develop talent and elevate the game across West Africa.”

The visit marks more than a symbolic gestur and represents a tangible step towards a more connected global cricketing landscape, where emerging regions are given the platform and support to thrive.
