The London Bangla Press Club (LBPC) has successfully concluded its biennial Executive Council election, delivering a clear leadership mandate through a process marked by transparency, order and exceptional member engagement.
The polling took place at the Impression Venue in East London, where members gathered in a calm, disciplined and collegial environment that reflected the organisation’s commitment to democratic values and professional conduct.
Out of 335 registered voters, 325 participated in the election, representing a turnout of approximately 97 per cent – one of the highest participation rates in the club’s history. In addition, 31 of the 34 issued online ballots were returned to the Election Commission, with two votes deemed invalid following verification.
Tareq Chowdhury was elected President and the successor to Mohammed Jubair after securing 168 votes, edging ahead of Saiyem Chowdury, who received 155.
Following the announcement, Chowdhury expressed gratitude to the membership, stating that the result demonstrated confidence in collective leadership and a shared vision for strengthening the role of Bangla media professionals in the UK.
Speaking after the result, President Chowdhury said: “This election reflects the maturity and unity of our members. I am honoured by the trust placed in me and am committed to strengthening professional standards, inclusivity and the collective voice of Bangla media in the UK.”
Taysir Mahmud was elected Senior Vice President with 168 votes, while Ahad Chowdhury Babu secured the Vice President position as an independent candidate with a strong showing of 172 votes.
The post of General Secretary was won by Akramul Hossain with 164 votes.
Abdul Qadir Chowdhury Murad was elected Assistant Secretary after receiving 182 votes.
Abdul Hannan was elected Treasurer with a commanding 198 votes, and Md Eklasur Rahman Pakku secured the role of Assistant Treasurer with 177 votes.
In other key positions, Alaur Rahman Khan (Shahin) was elected Organising and Training Secretary with 166 votes. Foysol Mahmud won the race for the Media and IT Secretary post with 190 votes, while Rupi Amin was elected Events and Facilities Secretary, also polling 190 votes.
Five candidates were elected as Executive Members: Sarwoar Hossain, Shahidur Rahman Suhel, Lokman Hossain Quazi, Farzana Chowdhuri, and Enamul Haque Chowdhury. Sarwoar Hossain emerged as the most popular overall, receiving 201 votes.
A total of 31 candidates contested the 15 member Executive Council, including representatives from two alliances and one independent candidate. The election outcome resulted in a balanced council reflecting both collective alliances and independent representation.
The election was conducted under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Mohammad Belayet Hossain, with commissioners Shahgir Bakth Faruk and Sirajul Choudhury Basit supporting the process. The commission was widely praised for ensuring a fair, credible and efficiently managed election from start to finish.
With the new Executive Council now confirmed, members expressed optimism that the incoming leadership will focus on professional standards, unity and strengthening the collective voice of Bangla journalists and media workers and volunteers across the United Kingdom.
