The 2024 Bangladesh District Cup Cricket Competition has been launched at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
This year the event celebrates its fifth anniversary, with current champions Moulvibazar, 2021 and 2022 champions Sylhet and Dhaka, winners of the inaugural 2019 event.
The event is organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association UK and The Grassroots Trust, a not for profit organisation and supported by Capital Kids Cricket, Middlesex Cricket, Essex Cricket, XTOSS and Alpha Print.
Notable officers:
Abdus Salam is the Co-Founder of the District Cup and Chairman of BCSA UK.
Md Shahidul Alam Ratan – CEO of Capital Kids Cricket is the Chairman of the Technical Committee.
BCB member Omar Hossain was announced as the Chairman of the Marketing and Promotion committee.
Abdus Salam said, “To improve the quality of the event we have reduced the number of teams to eight districts to ensure this remains the most prestigious cricket competition in the Bangladeshi community.
“I am thankful to Middlesex and Essex for giving us the support of their County Boards in order to help grow cricket amongst diverse communities.”
Md Shahidul Alam Ratan commented, “The format will be based on the ECB Hundred and international cricketers of Bangladeshi heritage will participate as Icon Players, to inspire the British Bangladeshi local talent.
“As a new MCC Member, I look forward to promoting this event and helping to create pathways for progression for British Bangladeshi cricketers”
Omar Hossain added, “We are delighted with the two sponsors who have joined the competition and we look forward to more businesses getting involved.”
The Bangladesh District Cup will take place between 10th to 15th September 2024.
Group stage matches will be played at a Premier Division ground in Middlesex and the
Finals will take place at an Essex cricket venue.
The programme was conducted by Ayaz Karim, Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Cricket Sports Association UK and supported by committee members Md Siraj Uddin, Emdad Rahman MBE – Two times Bangladesh District Cup winning coach with Sylhet and GM Evan – Umpire Co-ordinator and Secretary of the Technical Committee.
Guests in attendance dance included Angus Fraser MBE – Director of Middlesex Cricket and Former England cricketer, Shuhel Malique – Tower Hamlets Mayors Advisor for Sports and Callum Millar – Participation Officer, Middlesex Cricket.
