The Hamlets Hike & Trek Club have launched an ambitious initiative to develop a 10 Point Safety Charter aimed at strengthening safety standards for hikes and treks while encouraging wider community participation.

Working in partnership with the MCF, Mountain Training England and the MYA, the club is inviting walkers, trekkers, outdoor leaders and community members to contribute ideas during an online consultation on Tuesday 28 July, from 6pm to 7.30pm.

The charter will focus on promoting best practice, preparedness, risk awareness and shared responsibility, helping to make outdoor adventures safer and more inclusive for everyone.

Organisers hope the collaborative approach will establish practical guidance that benefits both experienced hikers and those taking their first steps into the outdoors.

The initiative also aims to strengthen confidence within diverse communities, ensuring more people can enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of hiking in a safe environment.

Anam Hoque said: “Safety is everyone’s responsibility. By bringing together the experiences and ideas of our community, we can create a practical charter that empowers people to explore the outdoors with confidence while looking out for one another.

^We want every hike to be safe, inclusive and enjoyable, and everyone’s voice can help shape that future.”

Anyone wishing to take part in the consultation can register their interest by emailing anam.hhtc@gmail.com
